Frequently asked questions

What is Jot?

Jot is a personal-memory app. You capture thoughts, notes, meals, bills, events and contacts in Memo mode - Jot figures out what kind of entry it is for you - and then you ask questions over everything you've saved in Ask mode.

Do I need an account?

No. Jot works anonymously from the moment you install it, using an identifier stored privately on your device. Signing in is optional and is what lets your notes sync to other devices and survive a reinstall.

What happens to my notes if I sign in later?

Everything you captured anonymously - your notes and your remaining action balance - is merged into your new account automatically. Nothing is lost.

What is an "action"?

An action is one AI request: saving a memo that needs classification, or asking a question. The free tier includes 2 actions per day. Jot Pro includes 200 actions per month with no daily cap. If a request fails or is deflected, the action is refunded automatically.

How do I manage or cancel Jot Pro?

Subscriptions are billed by Apple. Open the iOS Settings app → tap your name → SubscriptionsJot to change or cancel. Cancelling keeps Pro active until the end of the paid period. We can't cancel or refund a subscription on your behalf - refunds are requested through reportaproblem.apple.com.

I bought Jot Pro but the app still shows Free.

Open Settings → Restore purchases in the app while signed in to the same Apple Account that made the purchase. Subscription status is granted server-side, so it can take up to a minute to appear. If it still doesn't, email us with the Apple receipt/order ID.

Are my notes private? Are they encrypted?

Notes backed up to our servers are end-to-end encrypted. Your device encrypts them before they leave, using a key created on your device that we never receive, so we can't read them - and neither can our infrastructure providers. Your Ask conversation history and imported bills stay on your device only.

Asking a question is the exception. The encryption protects your backup, not the AI feature: when you ask Jot something, the notes needed to answer are decrypted on your device and sent to our AI provider, so that content leaves your device readable.

The key lives in your device's Keychain. With iCloud Keychain switched on, Apple carries it to your other devices, and it never passes through Jot. The trade-off: if you lose every device holding the key and the iCloud Keychain copy, we cannot recover your backup - we have no copy to restore it with. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Does Jot work offline?

Reading and searching your existing notes works offline, because they're kept in a local copy on your device. Saving a new memo and asking questions need a connection, because those go through the AI.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete individual notes any time in the app. For full account deletion, email veret.evg@gmail.com from the address on your account, or use the form below and pick "Delete my account".

Which devices are supported?

Jot is an iPhone app and requires a recent version of iOS. There is no Android or web version.
